Genres covered include the various blues subsets (country blues, jump blues, urban blues), country and western, rockabilly, the music of the folk revival, the music of the teen idols, sweet soul, the music of Motown, southern soul, and psychedelia. This course will continue the conversation begun in MUS280, which covered rock, pop, and soul through 1969. In this part-two course, we will study the music from 1970 and beyond itself, how culture shaped it, and how it shaped culture i.e., from both a musical and a sociological perspective. Genres covered include funk, disco, reggae, punk, new wave, and grunge, among others. Because hip hop culture in the 21st century has become pervasive in ways no one could have predicted in 1979 (generally recognized as the date of the first rap song), we will spend a significant time looking at various aspects of hip hop.

The Music Business end-of-semester conference provides an opportunity for the members of the MB&E to practice their craft in a context that goes beyond the classroom and approximates the "real life" situation of an academic conference. REGISTRATION: In order to track the requirement, every student should be registered for MUS293 Music Business Conference every semester for zero credits starting Freshman year and ending after the 1st semester of the Senior year, when students take the course for one credit hour.

A course designed for future teachers of singing. A study of the vocal instrument and various methods of teaching voice. Practical application is made as the students observe professional teaching. The students will be observed as they teach a lesson. Required for vocal performance majors and vocal pedagogy minors, others by professor's permission. 4 semesters of private voice lessons (MUS101/201) required.

Procedures for teaching keyboard fundamentals and musicianship, technique and its historical development, and survey of graded teaching materials are included. Professor's permission required. Instruments of the band, orchestra and scoring for voices are studied with regard to range, tone quality, and technical possibilities. Scoring and arranging for ensembles and full orchestra are also discussed.

This music-lab is a continuation of MUS272 in which students are further exposed to the recording studio equipment, software, and their use in studio session procedures and recording productions. Includes familiarization with multi-track recording, sequencing, synchronization, digital signal processing, computer-based editing, and MIDI technologies.

A summation of past work plus the development of new work in the student's major field, culminating in a faculty-juried business plan presentation and/or faculty-juried public performance. Students will produce a record album and/or portfolio artifacts. Also includes cooperative work with other senior project students in artist relations, concert promotion and concert production. For Music Business and Entrepreneurship students, this capstone course will be taken for 12 credits. Students will matriculate into one of the three programs at Dark Horse Institute (Nashville, TN): Audio Engineering, Songwriting, or Music Business in their last semester of study (ideally Spring semester of the Senior year).
