Biochemistry (BCM)
BCM358 General Biochemistry I w/Lab (4 course hours)
This is the first semester of a two semester course. Students are introduced to the major groups of biochemical molecules within the cell. Emphasis will be placed on protein structure and enzymatic regulation. Catabolic processes that lead to the generation of ATP, carbohydrate metabolism and lipid metabolism will also be discussed. Lecture and Lab.
Pre-requisites: CHM257
Course offered: FA (even yrs)
BCM471 General Biochemistry II w/Lab (4 course hours)
This is the second semester of a two semester course. Emphasis will be placed on the structure and function of nucleic acids. Transcription, translation and the regulation of gene expression will be covered. Genomic databases and bioinformatics will be used to analyze features of the genome. Integration of biochemical concepts will be applied to the cellular processes of life. Lecture and Lab.
