RN Applied Associate Program
The AASN program adheres to state requirements and recommendations for theory and clinical components which gives students time and opportunity for matriculation, indoctrination, and socialization into the nursing profession. The professional registered nurse functions within the roles identified by the National League for Nursing as a leader, manager, supervisor, teacher, counselor, communicator, and caregiver. The registered nurse is prepared to manage and/or provide nursing care by initiating the patient’s plan of care to include patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, appropriate patient-care interventions, and evaluation of the effectiveness of care provided.
Graduates of the AASN Program are awarded an Associate of Applied Science Nursing (AASN) degree and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam and seek licensure as registered professional nurses.
Admitted students will be awarded 10 transfer credits on the basis of an active, unencumbered PN license in the state of Illinois. LPNs who have an active license are not required to take the RN entrance exam but rather must take the NUR 110 Practical to Professional Transitions Course. The course includes content and review of the scope of PN and RN that will prepare students for the ATI RN Fundamentals exam.
