Broad investigation of design principles, process, and practice involving problems in two-dimensional design. Emphasis is on the creative iterative process as well as the production of finished forms. A digital component is included. Broad investigation of design principles, process, and practice involving problems in three-dimensional design. Emphasis on idea generation for creative problem solving as well as the production of finished forms. Techniques may include both additive and subtractive processes. A digital component is included.

DES228  Typography I  (3 course hours)  
Introduction to design concerns pertinent to typographical design, copyfitting, and analysis of letter forms including an introduction to the history of typography and the circumstances that influenced its progression. Advanced problem-solving methodologies of typographic design will be introduced on how to manage typographical systems and the organization of information as well as integrating other elements like image, line, and shape. DES231  Digital Design Fundamentals  (3 course hours)  
Exploration and application of basic elements, principles, and tools of digital design. Students will be introduced to the visual language of design, and its role in communication though the development of graphics and the presentation of information. Note: Access to a computer lab with the required software is provided. Personal computers may also be used, but not all are capable of supporting the software.
